NLIU's new seat allotment under CLAT 2010

The National Law Institute University has adopted a new seat allotment criteria for the year 2010, for the students selected under the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), 2010. Under the new allotment, the total number of seats has been increased from 82 in the last year, to 90 for the year 2010.

A comparison of the allotment for the year 2009 and 2010 can be seen below:

The greatest increase in the number of seats is seen in the All India general category seats which now include 33 seats, which is 6 seats more than last year's 27, while this increase compromises on the All India ST seats which have now come to a total of 3 from last year's 7 seats. There is a proportional increase in the SC seats of both All India and MP Domicile seats with both categories getting one seat added to the original reservation. However, the MP Domicile General Category has received only 1 seat more when compared to last year, as no MP Domicile reserved category seats have been compromised. Infact, the ST category seats from MP have increased from 7 to 9 total seats, perhaps for maintaining the ST minimum reservation for the Institution.
Although the increase in the number of seats cannot be seen as a great move for the quality of students in the University, one can say that the University administration has made a silent attempt to still maintain it, through the large increase in seats alloted under the All India General Category.
